“Grace of Monaco” is Set For December 27th Release

The Weinstein Co. has acquired the distribution rights to the highly anticipated Grace Kelly (aka Her Serene Highness, The Princess of Monaco) biopic “Grace of Monaco.”

The film stars the perfectly cast Nicole Kidman in the title role (below, right), with Tim Roth starring as Prince Rainier.

The film will be getting a limited release kicking off on December 27, just in time to put it forward for awards season nominations.

While it seems the movie’s execs are thrilled with the movie, not everyone involved is please. And by “involved” I mean “the son of the woman the movie is based on.” Prince Albert, the current sovereign of Monaco, is the son of Princess Grace and her husband, Prince Rainier. The Monaco Royal Palace has hit back with claims of “historical untruths” relating to the film, and has specified in a press release that Prince Albert has no involvement in the film, nor does he, or his wife, the current Princess of Monaco (Princess Charlene), support it.
