Is London The New Fashion Capital?

Paris has always been known as the fashion capital of the world, with New York City close behind.

London has, for it’s part, always had its few signature brands that specialized in traditional, steadfast styles. Burberry and Barbour have always held up the preppy, Sloane end of the spectrum, while Alexander McQueen handled the super high-fashion, avant garde genre for the city.

But now, with the rise of Repli-Kate fashion (think L.K. Bennett, and Reiss gaining worldwide notoriety thanks to a certain Duchess), a dozen or so bona-fide supermodels coming out of the UK (Naomi Campbell, Sienna Miller, Kate Moss, Poppy Delevingne, Cara Delevingne, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, and Suki Waterhouse, just to name a few), and some new designers that have burst onto the scene in recent years it looks like London could be giving Paris and NYC a run for their money.

Let’s not forget that high street brands Top Shop and ASOS are UK born and bred, and are quickly making their mark on the international market. And British designers like Victoria Beckham, Jenny Packham, Alice Temperley, and Erdem have been taking over the fashion scene.

While Paris is still the fashion capital in terms of housing the most famed and storied fashion houses, it seems that the London fashion scene has managed to carve a niche all it’s own. Part street style capital of the world, part haute couture, and all insanely popular, it seems that London is well on its way to solidifying itself as the tastemaking capital of fashion.

What do you think – is London poised to become the King of Fashion?
