Going It Alone.

If you’re a regular around these parts, you may recall that a few weeks ago I wrote a post about some changes in my life (professionally), and the opportunities that those changes brought.

Going-It-Alone

And now I am so, so happy to say that everything seems to be going better than I could have possibly hoped. I went from being employed as a “temp-to-perm” employee at a local college (with no benefits) and doing some freelancing on the side to make ends meet, to being unemployed with only my freelancing work to hold me up, to now – officially – being 100% “on my own.” I am a small business owner, I’ve got a book of clients that generates enough income for me to live – comfortably. And … I’m happy.

There have been a few bumps in the road that I didn’t really anticipate/think about when I decided to focus on building my business rather than applying endlessly to jobs (ugh, taxes!), but with the help and support of my friends and family (and an awesome accountant!) I got through it and am hoping to continue to grow my business.

In other news, there have been other issues – personally – that I’ve been dealing with that you may have noticed if you follow me on Tumblr or Twitter. These issues are a recurrence of what I went through two years ago, and I am fully confident that I’ll come through this again stronger and better – just like last time. (And, for the record, this time it isn’t nearly as bad as it was last time – because I know what to expect and I have the tools already in my arsenal to help myself.)

So what’s the moral of the story? I guess following your gut and doing what makes you happy really is worth the scariness. Surround yourself with good people, believe in yourself, don’t be afraid to work hard and ask for help, and you really can do anything.
