It’s been over a week – I know, I suck. But there’s been some stuff going on, and unfortunately blogging takes a backseat – because I haven’t figured out how to make a living writing about pop-culture yet. Well actually, I have figured out how to make a living doing it – but my parents have been looking forward to getting their kids out of the house for the last … I dunno, twenty years. So I would kind of be foiling their plans.
So – the Emmys!
Far & away, Nina Dobrev (from The Vampire Diaries) was my absolute favorite. She absolutely killed it in this red Donna Karan gown. I don’t even know what else to say. The cut was perfect, I love the geometric standy-upp-y top, the bottom is breathtaking… A++!
There was a lot of red on the red carpet this year, including:
Lea Michele looked (as always) stunning in her Marchesa confection. The back of the dress is gorgeous!
Kate Winslet looked classically elegant in her Ellie Saab gown. The gown was gorgeous, and the color looked fantastic on her, but I was a little disappointed – I would have loved to have seen her in something that’s as glamorous as what she pulls out for the Oscars every year. (Note: Kate won Best Lead Actress in a mini-series for her role as the title character in Mildred Pierce, which was one of my favorite shows of the year – right up there with Downton Abbey.)
Kelly Osbourne also looked absolutely to-die-for in her J Mendel gown. In the last few years Kelly has gone from Ozzy Ozbourne’s daughter to a force to be reckoned with in the fashion world. This dress did everything right for her, and I’m kind of loving the “grey” hair (if you look closely, there are actually some pastels in there as well).
Finally, I really enjoyed Julia Stiles gown. She was nominated for her guest appearance on Dexter and I think her dress looked absolutely gorgeous on her. The color is beautiful, and it fits her perfectly. I also really like the textured gauze-y thing going on…
So there you have it, my quick and dirty recap of the 2011 Emmys “best dressed” (in my opinion). What did YOU think?
