She has arrived. Well – not really, she’s been around for a while.
But only now is Mila Kunis getting the recognition she truly deserves. A number of blogs, magazines, and news outlets have been reporting that Mila Kunis has signed a contract to be the face of Christian Dior, and as such she has finally made her way from B-List to A-List.
Wait a second, back up – what?
You mean to tell me that people have been questioning whether Mila Kunis is an A-lister and are only convinced of her star-status now that she has signed an endorsement deal?
Let me break it down for you and explain why it’s ridiculous that anyone would only now accept Mila into the A-list world.
If you’re going to measure celebrity status on annual gross income, surely Mila would make the A-list cut, since she’s been working consistently in both TV and film since 1998.
- She’s has a TV career spanning 14-ish years, appearing first on That 70’s Show, and now as the voice of Meg Griffin on Family Guy, two highly rated series.
- Since wrapping That 70’s Show in 2006 she’s done at least 1 movie per year, including the hits Black Swan and Friends With Benefits.
Feel like taking a different metric route?
Okay then, how about the fact that Mila was nominated for both a Golden Globe and Screen Actor’s Guild Award in early 2011 for her part in Black Swan, which was also nominated for best picture at the Oscars.
Still not convinced (although, those are pretty impressive standards…) and want to measure status by tabloid reports and news coverage? Mila would still be well over the imaginary A-List/B-List divider.
Since her stint on That 70’s show, her comings and goings have been widely reported. Although she’s one of the more private (and seemingly low-key) celebrities, and therefore doesn’t have as much press as someone like Lindsay Lohan, her personal life still garners huge amounts of attention. Perfect example: It was big news when she and Macaulay Culkin split (which was actually reported by The Huffington Post one year ago today, so how’s that for timeliness?), and there was tons of speculation that she and FWB co-star Justin Timberlake were getting cozy.
So how could someone say that she is A-List only now that she has signed her contract with Dior? I’ll admit – before the huge success of Black Swan in 2010, her status might have been questionable – yes, she’d been around for a while, but most notably as a TV star. But once Black Swan came out, her A-list status was set firmly set in stone… the Dior contract is just icing on the cake.
So what do you think? Has Mila been sitting pretty on the A-list, or was she hanging out with the B-crowd before signing on the dotted line?
