So, today marks the London premier of Snow White and the Huntsman, and both Charlize Theron and Kristen Stewart stepped out in… uhm, black dresses… kind of.

The thing is – I think they both look pretty awful, although both are obviously rocking designer duds – Kristen is in Marchesa, while Charlize sticks with the tried-and-true Christian Dior.
Charlize’s Dior concoction is infinitely prettier than Marchesa’s attempt at what I can only imagine to be Gothic-bridal chic. The issue I have with Charlize’s dress is essentially the lack of a dress. I love lace and sheer details, but this is a bit too much. Sure – it’s long and flowy, but it’s see through. That makes it tinted Saran Wrap, not a dress. And, in other photos Charlize seems to be having a hard time deciding how to stand on the step and repeat, since her legs can’t be hidden under her skirt. That said, if the skirt were a bit less translucent, it would be a gorgeous gown (although, it could probably stand to be shortened by about 1 inch, it looks a bit too long in a completely non-graceful way).
The issue I have with Kristen’s dress is… basically everything. What’s with the weird tu-tu? And is that white detailing supposed to be spiderwebs or skeleton bones? And was the nude colored lace supposed to match Kristen’s skin tone? She’s been playing Bella Swan for 4 years – she has no skin tone. She is the definition of alabaster. So that detailing looks all sorts of wrong. Kristen should leave the Gothic, avante garde gowns to the experts, like Helene Bonham Cater. She’s been breaking out of her fashion-shell for the last couple years, and seemed to have found her niche in the leather-y, bad-ass, super sexy but not at all slutty genre, but after this and her appearance at the Met Gala (dear LORD what was she thinking) I think it’s safe to say that Kristen has fired her stylist and is going it alone, again. Before we know it, we’ll be seeing her rocking Converse on the red carpet again.
