Earlier this week when photographs of The Duchess of Cambridge (aka Kate Middleton) grocery shopping surfaced, the world rejoiced.
It’s been months since we’ve see Kate out and about, and these were the first informal photos of Kate to surface since before she was admitted to the hospital to give birth to Prince George.
Unfortunately, the Palace is not pleased with these photos being released and is particularly irked with The Telegraph for plastering them on the pages of their daily publication. While other news agencies were offered the opportunity to purchase the photos they all declined, saying that publishing the photos would be a breach of Kate’s privacy. The Telegraph, however, took a decidedly different viewpoint. After all, the photos were taken in a parking lot of a supermarket – essentially a public place. The photos were also taken from a long way off, which shows that Kate wasn’t being harassed by photographers in any way. The Telegraph also checked to ensure that there would be no security issues that could put Kate and her family in harms way should they release the photos.
Their biggest selling point though? Similar photos of Kate have been taken in the past – at the same grocery store, no less – without a peep from the Palace press offices.
It seems that since the announcement of Kate’s pregnancy the Palace has become quite a bit stricter regarding when and where it’s acceptable to take photos of the Royal Family, and whether it’s appropriate or not to publish said photos.
