As reported earlier, Prince William, The Duke of Cambridge, started the Ring-O-Fire ultramarathon in Anglesey, Wales today and was – slightly unexpectedly – joined by his wife, Kate Middleton, The Duchess of Cambridge.
The couple looked happy and relaxed as they chatted with spectators, racers, and race officials with Kate looking lovely in black trousers, a black and white spotted top (which we’ve seen before), and an olive green jacket. William, for his sartorial part, was dressed in what – at this point – has become his uniform: khaki pants, and a blue button-up shirt worn under a purple sweater.
Prince George, the couple’s only child and the third in line to the throne, was not at the event with his parents, which is probably for the best. Small babies don’t necessarily do well in large crowds with international television cameras around.
After making small chat for a bit, The Duke was then handed the ceremonial starting bell.
After the crowd counted down from ten, Prince William rang the bell (quite vigorously we might add!) and off the runners went – starting their 135mile journey around the Isle of Anglesey.
This is, of course, Kate’s first official appearance since prior to giving birth to Prince George. However, this wasn’t an event that was on the docket for her. Earlier this week, William was confirmed to be starting the race, but reporters were unsure as to whether or not Kate would participate. There was some press confusion regarding whether William was simply kicking off the race or actually running the race, which is where the rumors that The Duchess and Prince George being involved came from; people were hoping to see them cheering on William.
