Now that Labor Day has come and gone, we can all officially mourn the loss of summer. And, of course, wedding season. Just because wedding season is “officially” over, though, doesn’t mean that there won’t be any weddings come fall and winter. In fact, hosting weddings in the “off season” has become increasingly popular as the cost of weddings during the spring and summer rise.
So what’s a girl to wear to a fall wedding?
Color Selection. Florals – as well as bright colors or pastels – aren’t exactly suited to the season. When selecting your color pallet, try colors that are richer and perhaps a bit “earthier.” Swap your usual light pink summer-wedding frock for a deep purple or a jewel-toned emerald green. The color black has, traditionally, been seen as unsuited to a wedding in any season due to it’s connection with funerals and mourning. However, thanks in part to the popularity of the Little Black Dress, it’s now perfectly acceptable to wear black to a wedding. Try glamming it up a bit by selecting a dress with a hint of embellishment along the neckline.
Style. Besides selecting the right color, picking the right style of dress can also make a huge difference. Just because the temperature has dropped, there’s no reason for your hemlines to hit the ground (nor would it necessarily be appropriate). However, you also don’t want to be wearing a mini-dress that’s better matched for a 90 degree summer night (or a nightclub!). Pick a dress that hits between mid-thigh and three inches below your knee. You should also look for something that’s got a bit of a sleeve to ward off a chill and keep you looking seasonally appropriate.
