Prince George, the first and only (thus far) child of TRH The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (aka Prince William and Kate Middleton) met his great-grandfather, HRH Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh, this weekend at Balmoral Castle.
It has been reported that on Sunday afternoon The Duke, Duchess, and little Prince George hopped aboard a private plane headed for Scotland, where the third in line to the throne would finally get to meet some of his other relatives. The Duke of Edinburgh did not have the opportunity to meet Prince George when he was initially brought home from the hospital as he was still recovering from surgery at Windsor Castle. Once his recovery period was up, he immediately went to be with Her Majesty, The Queen, at the family’s Scottish estate, Balmoral. (Balmoral is, of course, one of The Queen’s private estates and is a favorite of the entire royal family.)
In addition to his great-grandfather, Prince George will get the opportunity to meet Prince Andrew, The Duke of York, and his daughters Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie of York, who are also at Balmoral this week. It is believed that none of the Yorks have had the opportunity to meet Prince George thus far.
This visit provides a unique opportunity in the world of royal photographs – there has not been a photo of the monarch with three generations of heirs taken since Queen Victoria was on the throne, and this is believed to be the first time that all three generations will be in The Queen’s company at the same time. It is expected that there may be a couple new official photographs released in honor of this occasion.
