Sparkles. Glitter. Facepaint. These are words that conjure images of middle school sleepovers, and sorority big/little gift crafting (you don’t even want to know how much money we invested in puffy paint during those four years!).
They are not words that we associate haute couture. But Givenchy set out to change that… kind of.
The Givenchy Fall 2014 collection was largely inspired by African and Japanese traditions, which lead Riccardo Tisci to celebrate some manifestation of that in his runway show. The route he chose was a high-fashion imitation of tribal masks.
The masks, which were created by applying sequins directly to the models faces, took twelve hours to apply… each. Yes, that’s right. It took a team of 20 makeup artists twelve hours each to create each mask.
