Prince William, The Duke of Cambridge, will be undertaking his first investiture on behalf of Her Majesty The Queen, this week.
On Thursday at Buckingham Palace, Prince William will be tasked with handing out Orders of the British Empire and knighthoods on behalf of his grandmother The Queen. Scottish tennis champ Andy Murray will be receiving an OBE, while Prince William will also be tasked with knighting to individuals.
It’s being reported that Prince William is quite anxious about performing the knighting ceremony, which entails “dubbing” the knight with a sword on both shoulders, and has been practicing frequently. Additionally, each honoree is allotted 30 seconds of speaking time with the royal performing the service, so any conversations will need to be quite quick.
The Duchess of Cambridge is not expected to attend the ceremony, as traditionally only one royal is present. The investitures have been undertaken in the past by The Prince of Wales, The Princess Royal, and The Duke of Edinburgh in place of Her Majesty, and it’s thought that priming Prince William for the role is yet another signal of his grandparents’ decision to undertake less duties while the younger royals step up.
