Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, the brains behind the uber-successful clothing lines The Row, and Elizabeth and James – as well as reminders of our carefree childhoods, are now adding fragrances to the long list of products within their empire.
In a partnership between their brand, Elizabeth and James, and beauty product haven Sephora, Mary-Kate and Ashley have launched Nirvana, a collection of two fragrances that can be worn together or separately.
Speaking of the development of the two fragrances, the ladies said they were in development for two years. The first fragrance to be finished was Nirvana Black, which took the majority of the time (a year and a half), while Nirvana White took about three months. The reason for the huge discrepancy? The ladies were trying to figure out how to make the perfume act “more like an oil.” Once they nailed it with Nirvana Black, all that was left to do with Nirvana White was select the scents.
The way the ladies selected the scents to be used was also a pretty interesting process. Apparently, they brought all of their favorite smell-good products (shampoos, conditioners, other perfumes and oils) down to the lab where they tried to identify – in each product – what the smell they were drawn to was. From there, they mixed and layered different scents until they came up with two that were representative of their vision and personalities.
The two fragrances, Nirvana White and Nirvana Black will be available in stores and online beginning in January 2014.
