What do you get the woman who has everything – especially when that woman is The Queen? When it came down to it, The Duchess of Cambridge (Kate Middleton) went for something homemade and heartfelt.

It has been revealed, as part of her first-ever solo interview for the documentary The Queen at 90, that for her first Christmas as a member of the royal family Kate decided to give Her Majesty a homemade gift of chutney. Kate also said in the interview that the recipe was her grandmother’s, which means that there’s a good chance it’s the recipe featured in Kate’s sister Pippa Middleton’s book Celebrate. The recipe is called Granny’s Marrow Chutney.
Whenever you give someone a homemade gift there’s a bit of added pressure – if they don’t like it, it’s easy to take it a bit personally. But it seems that isn’t something that Kate had to worry about, as the next day Her Majesty proudly served the chutney at dinner.
