So, Rebecca Black – the 13 (now 14) year old who sang the weekend anthem (Friday) heard round the world – has just released her second single “My Moment”, and I’m not going to lie – I kinda like it.
I’m sure we can all admit that, while “Friday” is a super catchy tune – it’s also super annoying. It’s one of those songs that just kind of drills itself into your brain and won’t get out. It makes you smile, until you realize that you’re smiling because you’re humming a song about which seat of the car to sit in (a car that – mind you, is either a) being driven by someone without their license [because they’re 13!], or b) – being driven by someone too old to be friends with a 13 year old) It’s also especially annoying to hear a 13 year old talk about “partying, partying (yeah)” – because really, what do 13 year olds know about partying? Nothing. I hope.
But THIS particular song is kind of nice. Sort of a big “eff you” to whoever gave Ms. Black crap about wanting to be a singer – since she did make over $1million with the release of “Friday” on YouTube.
What you think of “My Moment” – is it better or worse than “Friday”? And could it become an actual mainstream hit? Let me know in the comments!
PS – You’ll notice I’ve created a new tag, “Music Monday” – we’ll see how long it lasts, since we know how well my other “scheduled” topics have fared.
