Editor’s Note: After the initial publication of this post, it was confirmed that Marc Jacobs is leaving Louis Vuitton. His successor has not been named, but is widely believed to be Nicolas Ghesquière. It was also confirmed that Marc Jacobs has left Louis Vuitton to prepare for the IPO of his namesake brand.

Whispers that Marc Jacobs may be leaving his position at Louis Vuitton grew louder this week.

After a busy Fall 2014 show season, it seems that Marc Jacobs may be more interested in growing his namesake brand than continuing his tenure at Louis Vuitton. It also seems that Marc may be looking to do so in conjunction with an IPO. With Marc focusing 100% on his brand, the value of his company would surely raise, which would lead to a much better IPO than if he continues splitting his time between his brand and Louis Vuitton.

According to Fashionista.com, the team at Marc by Marc Jacobs has already begun revamping themselves, with the recent hiring of Luella Bartley and Katie Hilier. They’re also predicting that a lower-priced line – something comparable to Michael Michael Kors – could be in the works.
