Holiday Gift Guide #12: Wallets

Ladies

Company: Coach
Featured Item: Sutton Signature Skinny Wallet, $118.00

Until my boyfriend stepped up to the plate last year, I never had a nice wallet. I’ve got a bunch of really, really nice bags, and sunglasses, and shoes – but I never bit the bullet and bought myself a nice wallet. Last year, though, he bought me a beautiful leather Coach wallet with a million credit card slots (… or 6, whatever), a change compartment that never opens unexpectedly, and 2 pockets for cash (… which is generally empty).
I am a HUGE fan of just about everything Coach makes and LOVE this wallet because even though it is super thin (and therefore won’t clutter up your probably already packed-full bag), it’s got a million credit card slots. The drawback to this wallet is that it doesn’t have a change purse… but Coach sells those too, so don’t worry.

To be honest, I don’t have a very strong opinion on guys’ wallets, with the exception of this: They should not be corduroy or have any velcro on them what-so-ever. As long as they are in good condition, it doesn’t matter what they look like.

I have the feeling, though, that guys have a different mentality. Their thought is “as long as it holds my money, it can be hanging by its last thread, literally, and it’s still good.” NO, that is NOT correct.  I also feel that most guys never think to go out and buy their own wallets, which means just about every guy can use a new one every few years.

This is the wallet my parent’s bought for my boyfriend a couple of years ago (that I take full credit for picking out – and I picked it in brown, not black – I don’t really like black for a guy’s wallet, but that is neither here nor there), and it’s probably the best men’s wallet I’ve seen.

Why, you ask. Well because it has a really nifty flip up ID compartment. The wallet that my parent’s replaced for my boyfriend had one of these ID compartments and he really liked it. It comes in handy at restaurants when he gets carded. Rather than having to take his ID out, most of the time he can just flip the compartment up and show the server his license, without having to hand over his entire wallet. (Disclaimer: At some restaurants they make you take out the ID anyway – I have no idea why, but if you know, feel free to leave a comment!)
