Top Picks – 2011 Golden Globes

So as not to appear as a completely negative shrew, I am also going to include my favorite 2011 Golden Globes looks. I was initially going to keep it to just three, but I was really impressed with more than three, to the point where I don’t think it’s fair to cut the list short. So let’s just dive right in, shall we? (And, these are in no particular order.)
Megan Fox

For some reason, I think Megan Fox is always right on the verge of looking really trashy. Even when she is out and about in jeans and a t-shirt, she has that “I just rolled out of bed with your boyfriend” look about her. Not cool. But  in this Armani Prive dress, Megan looks fantastic!
  • The color was a big hit on the red carpet, with a lot of celebs choosing pale pinks or nudes. Since Megan’s hair is so dark and her skin is so light, she ran the risk of looking washed out, but the different textured fabrics at the top of the dress, along with her smoky eye makeup, kept that from happening.
  • Megan rocked the super high slit in her dress, adding her usual sex-pot factor. However, since the dress was long, with a modest cut at the top, and not overly fitted, the slit kept the dress fashionable, not tramptastic.
  • Drawback: That stupid Marilyn Monroe tattoo on her forearm. Why can’t she use some makeup and cover that thing for red carpet appearances? But overall she looks great, so I’ll ignore it.

Mila Kunis

Mila Kunis is, in my opinion, one of the prettiest girls in Hollywood. And she seems super down to Earth, which obviously makes her all the more likeable.
  • This emerald green color was also a big hit on the red carpet, and Mila killed it in this Vera Wang dress. Of the four women who wore emerald green (Catherine Zeta-Jones, Angelina Jolie, and Elisabeth Moss joined her), Mila far and away looked the best.
  • I love how this dress is fitted, yet there is still a train. I think this is what Michelle William’s dress was supposed to look like, but instead she looked like she had fins. Kudos to
  • I also really like Mila’s hair, makeup, and jewelry. All of it was stunning, but nothing was too overpowering. Everything complimented the dress, nothing took away from it.

The Girls of Glee
Dianna Aragon, Heather Morris, and Lea Michele killed it on the red carpet. There isn’t really any other way to put it. They all looked amazing. Jayma Mays, and Jessalyn Gilsig looked gorgeous as well, but they didn’t quite hit the mark to make it on my best dressed list. Jenna Ushkowitz and Naya Rivera looked pretty, but also missed the mark. Jenna looked like she was heading off to prom, and Naya looked like she was doing her best Kim Kardashian impression – super tight and low cut. She was teetering on the edge of very trashy. And unfortunately, Amber Riley looked like left overs. She wore a shimmery silver dress that looked exactly like she had been wrapped in a roll of aluminum foil. Not cute.
Dianna Aragon

Unfortunately for Dianna Aragon, most people are most familiar seeing her wearing a cheerleading uniform on Glee. But as it turns out, she looks great wearing designer gowns as well.
  • I really like the color of this dress. It was kind of risky, because she could have looked washed out, since the dress is nearly the same color as her skin and hair, but the texture of the dress and the subtle sheen to it kept her from looking completely monochromatic.
  • Her necklace is gorgeous. That’s all there is to it.
  • Her hair looks really pretty all down and wavy. It reminds me of the old Hollywood glam styles, but is still young, and fresh – keeping her from looking like a little girl playing dress-up.
  • Her makeup is flawless. I really like the color of her lipstick – any lighter and she would have looked like a ghost, any darker/redder she would have looked cheesy.
Heather Morris

Alright so Heather Morris isn’t a big name in Hollywood. Sure, she’s on Glee – which is a hit show, but her character is inconsequential. With the exception of the Brittany/Britney episode (which I loved!) she is generally in the background. And for some reason, that made me appreciate this dress even more.
  • Heather Morris, unfortunately, is not a leading lady. And she didn’t try to dress as if she was. Her dress is gorgeous, but it isn’t super flashy. She didn’t look like she was trying too hard, which would have annoyed me (terrible, aren’t I?).
  • The best words I can find to describe this dress are “Classically Beautiful”.
  • A gold sparkly dress would have looked super trashy and cheap – like a dress from Forever 21 instead of a designer gown. But since Heather kept the jewelry and makeup to a minimum, she avoided the potential catastrophe.
  • Heather was hired on Glee not for her singing or acting abilities, but because she is a professional dancer. And this dress shows off all those years of hard work. This dress is fitted enough to show off her great body without being clingy and cheap looking.
  • I really like the sleeves and neckline on this dress.
Lea Michele

Per usual, Glee’s Lea Michele looked amazing.
  • I loved the color of her dress, which looked great against her skin tone and hair color.
  • Generally I’m not a huge fan of ruffles and poof, but this dress is so fun and playful that it just looks right.
  • It helps that she just looks like she is having the best day of her life.
  • I can’t really tell from any of the pictures I’ve seen, but this dress looks like the train is more on the side than off to the back of the dress, and that makes the dress super interesting.
  • The large ruffles on one side of the dress accentuate her teensy-tiny waist on the other side.
  • I really liked that her hair was up, but kept with the style of the dress – loose and fun.
