Book Review: Water For Elephants

A couple of weeks ago my cousin called me as I was leaving Target. When I mentioned that that was where I was leaving, she asked if I had seen the book “Water For Elephants” – she wanted to read it before the movie (starring Reese Witherspoon & Robert Pattinson) comes out in a few months.

Flash forward to last week. While staring at the computer screen at work, praying that the phone would ring, the owner walked by and told me that I could feel free to read while I wasn’t busy. I immediately logged into my Amazon.com account, downloaded Kindle of PC, and set to work picking out what book would help get me through my days. I decided on Water For Elephants because I, too, wanted to read it before the movie comes out. (And it was cheap – like $5.)
So – long story short. I read the book in about 1 day. And I loved it. There’s a love story. A little bit of action. Lots of whimsey (it is a story about life in the circus, after all). A couple bad guys. And good guy that you can’t help rooting for.

Now – here is my concern. The book was truly phenomenal. And there were a lot of amazing things going on and its entirely possible that the movie could be forced to leave out certain scenes that were fantastic to read, but will be difficult to film (however, if the trailer is to be believed, it looks like the filmmakers were up to the challenge!).  There were things that were written that might just be too hard to choreograph/film in real life, without being actual circus folk.

Basically… everyone should read this book ASAP. Then, once the movie comes out, we can all see the movie and watch an awesome story be brought to life.
What do you think? Will YOU be going to see Water For Elephants when it hits theaters?
