Superbowl 45 – Recap

First – I apologize. I’ve been MIA lately because I’m lazy getting back into the swing of having a full-time job has been a rough adjustment. Since I started law school in August I had the luxury of waking up around 8:30AM every day. But now that I’ve got to be up by 6:15 to get ready, I come home from work & just want to crash. I really, really need to work on coming home from a long, hard day work & staying motivated.

Second – work has been going well. Obviously it’s not overly taxing, but there are things to do now besides just answering the phone & that helps the day go by quicker.
Anyway. As y’all know (except, perhaps, for my readers oversees… Hi Guys!) last night was Superbowl 45. My boyfriend is a huge, huge football fan, & even though “his team”, the New England Patriots, weren’t in the big game, he was still super excited to watch the game. I, however, was super excited to watch Christina Aguilera & Lea Michele open the game, the  half-time show, the commercials, & the episode of Glee that came on following the game… to be honest, the game was kind of just in the way of all the excellent TV that was going on.
Christina v. Lea
So. Christina Aguilera, who has been a pop sensation since she was about 16, and has been singing The National Anthem since she was 7 years old, majorly botched it last night during the game. In addition to trying WAY too hard & doing her usual vocal gymnastics, she also messed up the words. It was atrocious.
Aguilera has a powerhouse voice. She’s this teeny-tiny little girl with a voice that will blow you away. But on occasion when she sings live, she acts like she has something to prove. She tries to belt out the lyrics to her songs (or in this case, the song of Francis Scott Key) with the intention of blowing people away, but instead she usually embarasses herself. Such was the case yesterday.
Lea Michele, on the other hand, did a phenomenal (in my opinion) rendition of “America The Beautiful” right before Christina performed. She didn’t mess up her lyrics, go overboard with her vocals, or wear a dress 3 sizes too tight (oh, did I forget to mention that Aguilera looked like a stuffed sausage?). She went up there & sang her little heart out. And while she was supposedly lip-syncing, I’m alright with that. Because we all know she can actually sing (you don’t get to be on Broadway if you can’t), & there was zero possibility of her messing up the lines to a song on live national TV.
In Commercial News:
Toward the beginning of the game, my sister, mom & I were rating the commercials on a scale of 1-10. About half way through we stopped, because I disappeared for a little while & my mom went to bed. So yeah. But my top 3 favorite commercials were Volkeswagen “Force”, Doritos “The Best Part”, & Doritos “House Sitting”.
And A Review of Halftime:
Ok so, I am not a huge fan of Fergie. I don’t think she is overly beautiful (sorry!), & her voice isn’t that great either. However, I had been looking forward to the Black Eyed Peas halftime performance. I tend to think of them as the type of group that can really put on a show. And while they did put on quite the show (the people wearing light-up costumes were fantastic!), Fergie’s voice killed the show. In a bad way. She was atrocious. It would have gone down as one of the worst live performances I have ever seen, EXCEPT – Usher saved the day. He was AMAZING.
Oh. And the Greenbay Packers won the game against the Pittsburg Steelers.
So – what did you guys think of Lea Michele & Christina Aguilera… & the commercials?
